I thessalonians 5:10

JESUS DIED FOR US SO THAT, IN LIFE AS IN DEATH,
WE LIVE NEAR HIM.
I thessalonians 5:10

Jesus has risen us from the dead, even if we have never been in our grave.
That is what this passage is really about. In some versions it may say "sleep" instead of "death". Paul is talking about eternity.

But as I pondered on this verse I can see it can be used to talk about other things.
Jesus died so that we live near him in life.
Jesus died so that we live near him in death.

so that we live near him.
Isn´t this what the gospel is really about?
sometimes we can make things so confusing.

I smiled when I read the verse.
Jesus died so that we live near him in death.
Isn´t that some kind of contradiction?
live in death
It caught my attention.
Jesus, how is this? How can we walk together in death?
Should I just push the idea aside as a bad translation?
but the idea wouldnt let go ...

live in death

isn´t that what thousands of people have to do daily?

Take Iraq. people walk, go to work, school, eat, find a boyfriend, get married... all in the midst of death.

People fighting illness.Every breath, every swallow, every step...all in the midst of death.

Women. Fighting to keep their homes together, to bring up their children, to keep hope that tomorrow there will be a bouquet of flowers waiting for them...all in the midst of death.

Children. Thousands of kids living in the streets, finding food, laughing with friends...all in the midst of death.

Never before has the gospel strenthened me like this.
I guess part of the reason I got so tired and worn out was that I was preaching a gospel "Walt Disney" type.
Preaching and hoping to live in some type of "pink clouds", too many wrong ideas, too many Bible verses taken out of context, too shallow an understanding of what life is really about, and about who God really is.
Trying desperatly to find the "right" button to push in order to take pain and death away from everyone that was around me...forgetting that the way it really goes is:
Jesus died to walk near us in life AND in death.

God accepts death. He doesn´t deny it.
Sin = death
God knows, and knows that our every step is surrounded by death.
some of it produced out of our own sin.
another part comes from the sin of others, but no matter how it comes about...we are surrounded by death.

God knew, and made provision for such times.

An uncaring husband...a beautiful woman living in loneliness...in death. Jesus made provision. He went to the cross, so He could walk near this beautiful woman.

A broken home...children surrounded by pain and confusion...in death. Jesus made provision. He went to the cross, so He could walk near these special boys.
Uncaring children...abandoned parents filled with tears...in death. Jesus made provision. He went to the cross, so He could walk near these cold and hungry parents.

God admitting that such things exist, not denying and making provision...Jesus is the provision.

It has been so hard to accept God as God. He has the power to change things in a second, and somehow He withholds His power and instead of taking out a magic wand, He steps out of the throne and goes to the cross...
so He could live near us in death.

It just blows my mind
